The History of Fruit Growing in Soubetsu |

| At first apples trees were grown in Sobetsu, and by 1876 there was no more space for cultivation. Until 1965 there were no more than four or five families farming here, though nowadays there are about forty, and the area is known as a leading producer of fruits in Hokkaido. The oldest apple tree in Sobetsu is said to have been planted around 1890 at "Hamada Garden”,which has been in use for over 100 years. | |

| Not only are fresh fruits enjoyed in Sobetsu, but the development and sale
of original finished goods is ongoing. Apple juice, grape juice and jam
can be purchased at all the orchards. Also, one can purchase hand-made preserves. (You can feel the natural ingredients in the texture and flavor of this jam.) They are produced by "Jam Workshop Anzunoki”, a group of five led by the mistress of the Hamada Sightseeing Orchard (Hamada Garden), Miwako Hamada. |

Delicious Sightseeing Experience Farm；Sobetsu Fruit Village |

| The "Sobetsu Fruit Village” is a sightseeing farm in Sobetsu with
21 orchards. As one farming family's production is limited, in 1987 the
village was created to collexctively gather the efforts in order to improve
productivity. There are of course delicious fruits produced here, and various events of all kinds are held as well such as participation by tourists, recruitment of apple tree owners, study sessions, local environmental protection, and the development of manufacturing, sales and sales routes for reprocessed goods. In particular, 5,000 people take field trips here each year. |
